These solid cast, one-piece insignias were located where the Iowa troops were supposed to have passed through. Some believe these to be from after the civil war.  Many times we find items, such as insignias or 30-06 casings, lost by later troops who used the areas for training, but no other items were located. Charles Harris indicates that he knows of another set like these, also found where the Iowa troops were near Shiloh.

(l) Confederate bayonet scabbard tip. Another one like this were located on a previous dig. (c-r) Side and base view of a nice CS bullet. Several of these were located on digs at Shiloh.
